Solvent removal from resins, inks and dyes

The use of various raw materials for colouring clothing, drawing and painting has been in practise for thousands of years. The production and use of natural and synthetic inks and dyes is now a very precise science particularly as modern printers demand inks of the highest quality.

In many cases solvents are used in the production of resins, inks and dyes. At some point in the manufacturing process these solvents need to be removed, either partially or completely. It is most important that whatever process is used to for Solvent removal that no damage is done to the colour and structure of the ink or dye.

The Centritherm evaporator is an ideal unit for evaporating solvent from resins, inks and dyes. The Centritherm evaporator is a thin-film, spinning cone system that uses centrifugal force to ensure that the product is evenly distributed across the heating surface. With its unique design it develops the thinnest liquid film possible in any evaporator system, less than 1 mm thick, which crosses the heating surface in approximately 1 second, resulting in a well defined residence time. In this brief time the liquid receives all the heat it requires to evaporate the product to its final concentration.

Benefits of the Centritherm evaporator for the resin, ink and dye industry include:

  • No damage to the colour constituents
  • Low hold-up volume means it is ideal for:
  • concentrating small batches
  • processing valuable material – minimal losses
  • High concentration ratios possible in a single pass
  • Modular design for future capacity increases
  • Easily cleaned with built-in CIP
  • Suitable for hazardous area operation
